March in Hong Kong is known as art month and there’s plenty of it. Beyond that, this month has a host of culture showcases and foodie delights – here’s a rundown of all the culture tidbits you should get in on!

Made in Home Kong

Starting off strong with our very own event: Bamboo Scenes & Home Kong are joining forces to welcome March Arts Month to their city by launching a special photo exhibition: ‘MADE IN HOME KONG’ by the Hong Kong-based artists of Bamboo Scenes. Showing their city and its streets from unusual perspectives, fuelled by a sense of pride and love for the city.

A fascinating exhibition filled with personal stories & cultural histories. 100% Made in Home Kong – celebrating real art coming from Hong Kong.

Gathering Hong Kong’s creative talent from Art to Music to Design to Food – the exhibit will be launched with a special Launch Block Party on Saturday, March 16th, 2-6PM, with Live DJ sounds by Fergus Heathcote and Organic Bites by Locofama & BlackSalt. Free entry with 100% of pay-by-donation proceeds at the gallery doors donated to local charity ImpactHK .

Glocal Mahjong Exhibition

Mahjong is a staple in Hong Kong’s cultural landscape. Enter Glocal Mahjong, a new brand whos launched with an inaugural thematic exhibition dedicated to this Chinese favourite past time. A celebration of the art of the game, the showcase is held at Rm S414 in PMQ, taking you through the history of the game, tales and facts and unique collectables. On top of that, check out their fun products like giant mahjong tiles and mahjong cookies.

Coldefy, Architect of HKDI

Should one adapt to or fight against context? Coldefy & Associates’ projects often do both at once. Paying tribute to the architectural designs by Thomas Coldefy and Isabel Van Haute including the Hong Kong Design Institute, this showcase takes viewers behind the scenes to see how this iconic building became what it is today. See the visuals, sketches and models that fashioned the structure. On full display at the A001 Foyer of Hong Kong Design Institute.

Taste of Hong Kong 2019

Throw your diet out the window cause it’s back! A four-day gastronomic festival of eating, drinking and live entertainment, where the city’s top chefs showcase signature dishes and menu exclusives only available at Taste. Get ready to have your fill of drinks and gorge on some of the best food, all set against the skyline of Hong Kong.

HK Walls 2019



HKwalls is hosting their annual street art festival in Wanchai this month. A celebration of creativity, originality and freedom of expression; they actively work on connecting and building relationships with artists. This year boasts an exciting lineup of events including live painting sessions by top local creatives and international graffiti artists.

Art Basel Hong Kong

The big kahuna of art month is Art Basel. Held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, features premier galleries from Asia and beyond. The show provides an in-depth overview of the region’s diversity through both historical material and cutting-edge works by established and emerging artists.

Art Central

Back to the harbourfront, Art Central returns for its highly anticipated fifth edition! Art Central 2019 will welcome 107 leading galleries from 22 countries, with over 30 exhibitors making their Art Central debut. The fair will feature a critically acclaimed five-day programme including performance art, large scale installations and talks by some of the leading names in contemporary art today.

A new pop-up restaurant created especially for Art Central: SCARPETTA di Daniele Sperindio will be a food highlight, proving again that Art Central is the best place to dine during Hong Kong.

Tim Yip: Blue – Art, Costumes and Memory

Making his first large-scale solo exhibition in Hong Kong, “Tim Yip: Blue – Art, Costumes and Memory” captures 30 years of artistic evolution of the award-winning Tim Yip. Celebrated for his artistic direction and costume designs for “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”, Tim Yip is a world-renowned visual artist, stage and film art director and costume designer who has over the years left an imprint in art, culture and performance across the globe.

“Blue” is the starting point for this exhibition: it plays on ideas and symbolisation the nature of human imagination to the depths of the subconscious mind, from collective history to human memory.

Art Gallery Night & Brunch

In anticipation of a wide variety of art events in March and to celebrate Hong Kong’s vibrant art scene, ‘Art Gallery Night’ aims to offer a fun evening for visitors to join special exhibitions as well as events at HKAGA member galleries, and simply to immerse in art.The free event welcomes the public to pop into any one of its 35 member galleries across town and check out special exhibitions on display, check out their art talks and rub shoulder with other art lovers.

Hong Kong Arts Festival

Hong Kong Flower Show
