Foxglove

Cleverly disguised as an umbrella shop on Duddell Street, this speakeasy bar has become a fast fixture in Hong Kong’s music scene. A stunning vintage interior paired with craft cocktails and a late-night dumpling menu, it’s a fast favourite. Wood-panelled and sound-insulated, the space has been designed to provide the best listening space in the city, with a vintage high fidelity sound system installed into the walls. The music room plays host to Hong Kong’s most dedicated record collectors and audiophile community, with a nightly programme that ranges from jazz to disco and more experimental sounds. Mudita Along Ice House Street lies Mudita, a late-night lounge from Buzz Concepts. They offer live music every Friday night from 11PM-12:15 AM, paired a selection of curated cocktails. You can expect a mix of R&B classics, pop favourites and golden oldies. Mudita is a place for the familiar and unfamiliar to vibe together over curious sounds and smoky libations.

Ned Kelly’s Last Stand

One of Hong Kong’s oldest surviving bars in Hong Kong, Ned Kelly’s is over 50 years old. Lined with jazz and sports memorabilia, this music institution offers live jazz performances every night of the week. You’ll be treated to the sounds of the Dixieland jazz band China Coast Jazzmen, the resident band who play five nights a week. Grab yourself some drinks and settle in for an evening of lively tunes at one of Hong Kong’s oldest dive bars.

Peel Fresco Music Lounge

Peel Fresco calls themselves the only true live music venue of Hong kong. With a steady influx of talented jazz musicians taking to the stage, they also host open jam sessions, which make for some entertaining evenings. You can catch a performance every day, except for two Mondays a month.

This Town Needs

Previously known as Hidden Agenda, This Town Needs has become the spot for underground music. A little further out than most on our list, a trip to this Yau Tong spot and you find some of the best indie bands from Hong Kong and around the globe. In an era of commercialized pop, their focus has always been, and always will be keeping local and indie music alive. Anyone seeking music outside of the mainstream is welcome here.

1563 At the East

With an expansive space in Wanchai, 1563 offers up regular local and international music performances spanning the genres. The live house offers a relaxed dining experience and nightly gigs. It is a well-designed cosy live house space with acoustics tailored to enhance musicianship and performance. A great place to witness those waiting to be discovered.
