Are you itching for some live music to jive along to? Or simply looking to impress out-of-towners with a performance they’ll remember? Here’s where you can catch some of Hong Kong’s best live musical acts.

Fringe Club

A stage for music, art performances, comedy shows and art exhibitions, the Fringe Club is known for letting creativity fly. Here you’ll be sure to find some great tunes, like their many jazz nights. Check their website to stay up to date with the latest happenings. Their rooftop garden is also a great place to get away from the bustle of LKF and enjoy some cocktails with a view.

The Wanch

Everything from rock to acoustic, jam sessions and even a few open mic nights, The Wanch is a laid back bar with live music on tap. A small venue with plenty of personality, it has a real rock n roll vibe to it. A mainstay in Wanchai, The Wanch is a great joint to hit up any night of the week.

Cleverly disguised as an umbrella shop on Duddell Street, this speakeasy bar has become a fast fixture in Hong Kong’s music scene. A stunning vintage interior paired with craft cocktails and a late-night dumpling menu, it’s a fast favourite. Expect to hear some jazz, a bit of blues, soul and funk. Music Room @ Potato Head One of the most unique spaces inside Potato Head Hong Kong is the music room, an intimate listening space for audiophiles. Wood-panelled and sound-insulated, the space has been designed to provide the best listening space in the city, with a vintage high fidelity sound system installed into the walls. The music room plays host to Hong Kong’s most dedicated record collectors and audiophile community, with a nightly programme that ranges from jazz to disco and more experimental sounds. Guests are invited to join for a sit-down, lounge service where they can enjoy drinks and lighter fare from the Potato Head bar alongside the music programme.

Mudita Along Ice House Street lies Mudita, a late-night lounge from Buzz Concepts. They offer live music every Friday night from 11PM-12:15 AM, paired a selection of curated cocktails. You can expect a mix of R&B classics, pop favourites and golden oldies. Mudita is a place for the familiar and unfamiliar to vibe together over curious sounds and smoky libations.

Ned Kelly’s Last Stand

One of Hong Kong’s oldest surviving bars in Hong Kong, Ned Kelly’s is over 50 years old. Lined with jazz and sports memorabilia, this music institution offers live jazz performances every night of the week. You’ll be treated to the sounds of the Dixieland jazz band China Coast Jazzmen, the resident band who play five nights a week. Grab yourself some drinks and settle in for an evening of lively tunes at one of Hong Kong’s oldest dive bars.

Peel Fresco Music Lounge

Peel Fresco calls themselves the only true live music venue of Hong kong. With a steady influx of talented jazz musicians taking to the stage, they also host open jam sessions, which make for some entertaining evenings. You can catch a performance every day, except for two Mondays a month.

This Town Needs

Previously known as Hidden Agenda, This Town Needs has become the spot for underground music. A little further out than most on our list, a trip to this Yau Tong spot and you find some of the best indie bands from Hong Kong and around the globe. In an era of commercialized pop, their focus has always been, and always will be keeping local and indie music alive. Anyone seeking music outside of the mainstream is welcome here.
