YOUR GUIDE TO A HK CHRISTMAS
Christmas in Hong Kong doesn’t conjure up images of snow-filled landscapes and winter wonderlands. Still, HK has its own brand of Christmas, which is true to its international form. Here are some unique, some expected things to do and places to hit up this December to get you in the festive spirit.
Get Snap Happy at Winterfest
You’ve probably seen it already. The city is aglow with Christmas lights and festive decorations. All across Hong Kong, including iconic spots like Statue Square, you’ll find a massive tree expertly decorated and a Santa’s grotto. Head to the harbourfront for the full spectacle, see major buildings adorned with holiday iconography and enjoy an enhanced laser show. Great for taking snaps around the city!
Shop til you drop!
Shopping is pretty synonymous with Hong Kong, Christmas time is no different. Get your cash and cards ready and head around the various malls in the city. Each of them will undoubtedly treat you to elaborate decorations, holiday deals and blast classic Christmas tunes wherever you wander.
Or, head outside to the Southside for the annual Christmas market. With over 50 booths, they feature big and small brands, delicious bites and entertainment for all. Great for families, friends, dates or to pick up last-minute gifts!
Spend a Magical Day at Disney
Disneyland is rife with Christmas spirit; it’s undoubtedly magical for the kids but also hooks in the adults too. If you’re looking to spend a day seeing shows, meeting the characters of Frozen and having a little song and dance, this is right up your alley!
Party at Santacon
The epitome of drink and be merry! Grab yourself a Santa suit and join this HK wide pub crawl. The event is entirely free (minus the money you’ll spend at the bar) and open to everyone above 18. Past events have begun in Central and end in Wanchai, as you make your way merrily by foot. You might ruin the image of Santa for a few kids, but they’ll get over it!
Learn a Traditional Gingerbread Recipe
This December 21st head to Commissary and learn how to make delightfully festive Gingerbread Cookies with head pastry chef, Simone McLean. For both adults and kids, not only will you take home six of your hand made cookies, you’ll also get a slice of Commissary’s red velvet cake and a bottle of house kombucha. Yum!
